The Past Two Weeks in Economics: Jobless Claims, Producer Price Index, and the Fed Decision

OUR REACTION: In terms of the Federal Reserve, we will be posting our reaction to their statement on Thursday (Sept 30th). You can read the entire Federal Reserve statement here. In terms of jobless claims, we seem to be stranded between 450,000 and 500,000 weekly new jobless claims (you can see this in the below chart for 2010). We will need jobless claims to fall to under 400,000 per week in order to have SUSTAINABLE job growth going forward. The number of continuing claims is falling, but I have to wonder what is happening to these people. Are they living without a job and benefits? What's going on there?

What are your thoughts on jobless claims and the Federal Reserve?
