I came across a great video about the economic history of Detroit. Since 1961, the city has been managed by left wing mayors and thus left wing economic programs. This video shows just how well these programs turned out for the city. Some highlights to consider when looking at Detroit:
1) They were adopters of the "Modern Cities" program, which was a centralized urban development program.
2) Detroit's schools receive 25% more per pupil in taxpayer dollars (compared to the national average) yet the graduation rate in Detroit is only 25%.
3) Entitlements in the auto industry and its role in the downturn of Detroit.
