I'm not sure how many people still have this attitude, but 30 years ago, the woman in today's video asked Milton Friedman why the government shouldn't act as a parent towards its citizens. While I believe a desire to have that is the ultimate act of laziness, you'll have to watch the video to see what Friedman had to say.
